Introduction
Hello! and welcome to our modern magical mystery tour! I created this space to be able to share our tales from the road, and to keep everyone informed as our journey unfolds. After many requests from friends and family to be able to follow along and receive updates on our whereabouts…. I planned to share what I could on Instagram, but soon found I just had too damn much to say for that platform. I am by no means a writer or blogger, but I do very much want to record the memories we are making, big and small. I have historically not shared a ton of details about our family with the public… through social media platforms, (minus some adorable pictures of our adorable kids and some highlights of our life so far)……. so, this more authentic and revealing sharing feels a bit vulnerable. My hope is that readers will appreciate the real, raw glimpse into the beauty and travails of everyday life and major travels of a young family of five and one unruly wolf dog. l will try to post the major highlights of where we go and what we do, as well as little anecdotes from along the way. I am also notoriously NOT tech savvy, but I am trying to grow my abilities. Just getting to this point has been excruciatingly painful and slow as molasses. Please hang in there, I am learning as I go and hope to improve my skills along the way. I also don’t want this to detract from my overall experience of the trip, so I will likely only work on it at night after bedtime…. so, yeah, the posts might be slow to come. Thanks so much for being here and being interested in our journey! We love our friends and family deeply and are very grateful for the support we have received. Buckle up! Here we go!
December 27th 2022 4:30 am. I’m still awake. I know Matt and the kids are up and heading to the airport for their 6:00 am flight to Liberia, Costa Rica. I still can’t quite fathom I’m not going with them. The National Passport Agency doesn’t open until 8:00 am… I’m counting down the moments until…
December 27th, 2022- Its 2:30 am and I am eyes wide open after a menial 4 hours of sleep. Running through my head are the events of the last few days…. which inevitably leads me to reviewing events of the last few weeks, months, hell the whole year! And what a year it has been…. …
4/4/21 Easter Sunday Well, you just could have never prepared me for the total mind melter of a day this was to be.. on every possible level … cognitively, aesthetically, physically, emotionally…. It was just a big one. First, Hoppy Easter! I had false hope that Easter just wasn’t going to be a thing this…
4/3/21 Saturday- Desert Moon Campground, Thompson Springs Utah and Moab The kids are up early and ready to explore. I manage to get myself together and make some oatmeal (and coffee, because of course coffee) before the kids are outside and scattering in every direction. Isabelle is at an age, (or it could just be…
4/2/2021-FRIDAY (Breckenridge- Grand Junction- Thompson Springs, Utah) I don’t really know how to share what all has transpired over the last 6 months…..I think it will take some time to reflect and unpack it all before I can fully understand it myself. So instead, I’m just going to jump right on into this next escapade.…
New Year’s Eve 2020 was spent on a respiratory unit at CHOA, with a terribly ill 16-month-old sweet baby Jack. Confined to a hospital bed, in an isolation room, holding my precious baby close to my heart…… I exhaustedly dozed in and out while watching the fuzzy, miniature hospital tv that was affixed to the…
10/16/2020 Have you ever been roused from slumber by a chorus of coyotes? Me neither…. at least not prior to this glorious morning on our Kansas prairie farm. I woke several times throughout the night feeling quite dizzy and disoriented, unable to determine which way was up or down, my proprioception severely deficient…. I…
Part I 10/14/2020 I have barely slept. At one point in the night I thought there was a crowd of townies outside with pitchforks and flaming torches, rocking our camper back and forth trying to upend us for intruding on their land. Did that happen? Was it a dream, or my mind playing tricks on…
10/13/2020 A new day in a new state has begun. It’s always thrilling to wake up in a location that we arrived at in the dark. Where are we this time? What type of magic will the daylight reveal? This particular landing spot is South Sandusky campground at Rend Lake in Illinois. I have zero…
10/12/2020 I am telling yall, we left Daniel Boone next level. The drive is already going 1000 times better than any car time we have logged thus far. The kids have finally figured out how to occupy themselves without their activity solely consisting of fighting. They have their books, coloring, action figures, harmonicas, idiosyncratic games…
